Assassinating Around Viking Britain
Oh Ubisoft, you do know how to treat us. After an impressive artistic demonstration you today revealed that Valhallah is going to be our next adventure in the Assassin’s Creed universe.
We’ll be getting another character, Eivor who we can take into action in male or female form. Advancing on from Odyssey, we will have more freedom to customise the look of our embodiment of Eivor, and we will adventure from the Nordic regions to Britain and set up home.
If Ubisoft confirms Wales is part of the action, I might well jump for joy, but whether they can still hit their release target for the end of the year in light of the current situation is yet to be seen. Targeting current and next-gen machines is an interesting move. Historically when games are released across the generations one will be left as the ugly duckling. I’m expecting the majority of players to be picking this up on current machines, but hopefully that doesn’t take anything away from the experience.
The Assassin’s Creed series has come a massive way since it exploded with Ezio’s adventures around Rome in Assassin’s Creed 2 (did anyone play the first one?), the opportunity to rules the waves in Black Flag all the way through to the RPG stylings of Origins and Odyssey. I fully expect Valhallah to take the recent RPG elements and build upon them, and give us a wonderful experience of Viking Britain.
In the meantime, I’m going to go back to playing pirates in the remastered Black Flag on the Switch. And then play Rogue for the first time…and maybe even see what Connor got up to in Assassin’s Creed 3. I feel more words will be required on the old days of the series.
