Retro Reticule – Daze Before Christmas

Retro Reticule – Daze Before Christmas

The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting darker and the streets are getting busier, which can only mean one thing. It’s that most wonderful time of year again, it’s Christmas. While we’re starting to get festive though it’s easy to overlook that our favourite pastime is the grinch of the media world. During this time of year both music and film pump out hundreds of themed albums and movies, but while many games make a token effort (with DLC and such) fully-fledged Christmas games are few and far between. There are some though, like Funcom’s 1994 Mega Drive game Daze Before Christmas.

God of War: Ascension – The Verdict

God of War: Ascension – The Verdict

Ever since its inception, the God of War series has been content on making itself bigger, more brutal and more beautiful with every instalment. God of War: Ascension largely sticks to this formula but also pays more attention to character development, attempting to transform Kratos from the ultra- macho character he’s become, to a more sympathetic and endearing one. It’s been revealed that one of the most anticipated Wii U exclusives, Rayman Legends, will no longer feature only on the Nintendo console and will now be coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 as well. Little Inferno — The Verdict

Little Inferno is a game about a fireplace. It’s about the simple act of burning things. At a surface level it’s a fairly simple puzzle game. Yet Little Inferno also manages to be one of the most thought-provoking, satirical and engaging games of the year.

Disney’s Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two — The Verdict

Disney’s Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two — The Verdict

Historically Disney games tend to be fairly good — the Illusion series that includes Castle of Illusion, World of Illusion and the original Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion was critically well regarded. However, much like the inhabitants of Wasteland, Disney’s Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two is best forgotten.

Wii U — First Impressions

Wii U — First Impressions

The first home 8th generation video game console is finally upon us and it’s Nintendo leading the charge with the release of the Wii U. I’ve got a hold of the Premium ZombiU edition, so if you’re stuck on the fence about buying one then hopefully this should help you out. Here are some first impressions:

F1 Race Stars – The Verdict

F1 Race Stars – The Verdict

There are some combinations in this world that shouldn’t by all logical reasoning work. Why does chilli go so well with chocolate? How can Jaegermeister and Red Bull make such a slamming drink? Perhaps the people at Codemasters Racing know, because they have managed to take the two ends of the racing spectrum, karting and F1, and combine them to create F1 Race Stars.
