Mona Again? Why the Hell Not?
This is a little unusual. In 2005 Mikael Kasurinen founded a mod for Max Payne 2 that focused around Mona Sax, the love interest in the game. What’s interesting about that is that he was on the original Remedy team that made the game, so this is as close as you’ll get to an expansion for the now Hollywoodized franchise (which will inevitably bring up a sequel, but Remedy seem to be a bit bogged down with Alan Wake at the moment, so I don’t know who will develop it). The mod adds 5 levels, all centered around Mona, and it’s called Mona: The Assassin.
Even though Kasurinen left in 2006, it looks like there’s an incredible amount of polish on the mod, and even just looking at some of the screenshots you can see that a lot of effort has gone into it. The trailer is something else entirely, and I would be playing it right now if I had my Max Payne 2 discs with me, but alas, they are at my other home. If any of you do have the game handy, let me know if it’s any good, because it sure as hell looks it.
