News- Doom: Teaser Trailer

Oh my.

It’s Doom. This is THE game that cemented my gaming and FPS love, and they’ve released a teaser trailer. It’s less than 3 seconds of footage, half of which are arguably cutscene, but I’m squeeing like a schoolgirl.

Past the splash screen, the certification screen and the title- oh and of course the obligatory static, there are just two scenes:

1-THE Shotgun

2-A Revernant.

Now I call it ‘THE’ Shotgun, as it is in my mind, without a doubt, the greatest game-weapon of all time. This particular flavour is the double barreled one and it is special for a few reasons. First, because the weapon packed a hell of a punch and remained relevant even once you’d found the plasma rifle. Second, the sound. The chuck, click, and BOOM. Chuck, click, BOOM. It’s a series of sounds that are etched onto my psyche. I can literally hear it now.

The Revernant is also significant for me, as it was one of the more interesting enemies to face and the design seems true to the originals. He (?) had dual heat-seeking rocket launchers on his shoulders. Close the gap to negate them and he’s still not harmless. In fact he’ll punch you in the face. Repeatedly.

The fact that the shotgun is one of only 2 things that are shown in the trailer tells me that they’re serious about appealing to the a Doom fans of old. We hold that weapon very close to our hearts. The Revernant I think, shows that they’re trying to hold true to get original design ethos. The Cyberdemon we’ve already seen was perhaps, slightly off kilter with the original Doom. This though, calms that particular worry for me somewhat.

All will depend on when we get some ACTUAL footage and we can see just how pervasive the Reported QTE’s are. But, what can I say, I’m an optimist, and right now gaming needs a Doom.
