Our Week in Games – Week 96
I’ve been away most of the past week and I seem to have avoided any new games journalism scandals. In fact, nothing too controversial has happened apart from Apple announcing their new devices. Destiny was released of course, and we will have some words in the coming weeks. For now, on with Our Week in Games.

I’ve been playing a lot of Wasteland 2. It’s …. Well read my preview which should be up in the next day or so.
I’ve also been given access to Star Conflict, a sci fi-MMO space snooty-ness game by Plan of Attack. It’s loading as we speak, so I can’t really comment except to say, god it looks pretty.
That aside, work commitments saw me into the surprisingly technologically backward Berlin. So I had to rely on my trusty ipad for entertainment. As such I’ve been playing a lot of Hitman: Go.
It’s effectively a puzzle game set in the Hitman universe, but it’s presented as an absolutely gorgeous board game. You move Agent 47 around, trying to complete objectives (usually getting to the exit). There are rewards for doing levels in certain ways (zero ‘kills’, number of turns, clearing the board etc) and they add a nice degree of reproducibility. The puzzles are generally good, and require some serious thought. The use of ‘environmental’ objects also adds another nice level of complexity.
I’ve been quite impressed with it and it certainly helped while the hours away on and waiting for flights. I certainly think it’s worth a purchase.

As I said in the introduction, I have spent most of my week away. This time I was near the Peak District going to Alton Towers and other such attractions. My Welsh bones felt quite out of place being somewhere so far north.
Without any consoles, I was left with my Nexus 7 for company. Sadly there wasn’t any WiFi and little to no 3G up in the middle of nothing. As such, I couldn’t update my copy of XCOM but I was lucky enough to play Football Manager Handheld 2014 which is something of a lifesaver. I was playing my first season with TNS and managed to complete a league and cup double. All this has done though is make me excited for the new full game on the PC.
