Company of Heroes 2 – The Verdict

Company of Heroes 2 – The Verdict

War is brutal and horrific, yet it feels like recent big FPS hits have failed to truly touch on the horrors of war, rather favouring over the top set-pieces and wafer thin plot. It falls then a totally different game from the Call of Duty and Battlefield’s of the world to give us a somewhat realistic viewpoint on war. That game is Company of Heroes 2 and it is a must play.

Company of Heroes 2 Beta – Campaign Mission Report

Company of Heroes 2 Beta – Campaign Mission Report

I’ve been promising to get back into the Company of Heroes 2 for a few weeks now, but finally I got it updated on Steam and jumped in. There have been some changes since I last played, the most obvious being the inclusion of a Campaign mission. It is the seventh mission set in January 1943 entitled Land Bridge to Leningrad. I came away…impressed. Things seemed a lot tighter and ready than they did when I played the singleplayer demo at the Eurogamer Expo last year. To be expected really considering how long it has been since then, but it now feels much more like a complete, finished game.

Company of Heroes 2 Trailer – Play it Before the Next Big FPS

Company of Heroes 2 Trailer – Play it Before the Next Big FPS

I did want to get back into the Beta for Company of Heroes 2 last weekend, but somewhere along the line, time got away from me. Probably because I was too busy playing Mars: War Logs. Despite that setback, it is still on my list of things to play more, and this latest trailer does the game justice and does a good job of explaining why we should be prepared to play this before the next big FPS. After all the hullabaloo last week around the Xbone, it is nice to experience some sanity with a true PC game like Company of Heroes. Trailer can be found after the break.

Remember Me features exploration, platforming, stealth, and melee combat. The game introduces the mechanic of ‘memory remixing’: entering and rearranging a target’s memories to manipulate them. Players accomplish this by replaying a memory and modifying details to change the target’s recollection of the outcome. Another key mechanic of gameplay is stealing memories from specific targets and using points called Remembranes to replay the memory in real-time: this is often needed to proceed through the game or avoid hazards otherwise hidden from the player.

Company of Heroes 2 PC Strategy June 2013

Company of Heroes 2 will feature the Soviet Red Army as a new faction and will take the player on various stages of the Eastern Front campaign, from Operation Barbarossa to the Battle of Berlin. The game is built on Relic’s proprietary Essence 3.0 engine, which showcases new improvements compared to Relic’s previous games. One such improvements is the new line-of-sight technology, TrueSight,[9] which aims to better emulate troop visibility in real combat. In contrast with traditional unit visibility, TrueSight more accurately represents a unit’s visibility range based on environmental conditions and type of unit. Essence 3.0 will also incorporate an innovative weather-simulating technology known as ColdTech and destructible environments.

Company of Heroes 2 – Initial Battle Reports

Company of Heroes 2 – Initial Battle Reports

Wow. This game is going to be fun. As I write I’ve just had to drag myself away from playing another game of Company of Heroes 2 as I know that I will spend my whole day playing it otherwise. The pull of more wintery action is strong. I see bright things ahead for Company of Heroes 2, even just based on a couple of skirmishes battles against the AI. If you’re looking for some RTS action which isn’t full of Zerg, then this follow up to the Western Front set classic might be what you need.

Company of Heroes II – Release Date Announced

Company of Heroes II – Release Date Announced

After THQ went the way of the Stephens Island Wren in early January, I and many others were more than a little concerned about the fate of those titles it held under its wing. Metro: Last Light and  Company of Heroes II were well into production when the publisher went into liquidation, and for a time rumours were rife that the titles would never see daylight.

Eurogamer Expo Day 1 Roundup

Eurogamer Expo Day 1 Roundup

What a day it has been, it is now 10 in the evening an I am relatively pooped. I travelled up here to London from Cardiff and checked into my hostel earlier today before spending a few hours down at the Eurogamer Expo in Earl’s Court. It was only a short visit compared to what I hope to achieve over the next few days, but it had some very good moments. Hit the jump for my Day 1 roundup.

New Company of Heroes 2 Screens Emerge

New Company of Heroes 2 Screens Emerge

Gamescom brings out some really good things, one such thing is this batch of new screens for Company of Heroes 2. This is surely going to be one of the best RTS titles of recent years, even if you count League of Legends and DOTA as being RTS games at heart. I loved the original, and the Eastern Front setting for the new one has me giddy with excitement. Hit the jump to see all the screens, click on them to make them bigger.

Company of Heroes 2 Confirmed – Release 2013

Company of Heroes 2 Confirmed – Release 2013

The rumours have been swirling around the internet over the past few days, but earlier today THQ formally announced Company of Heroes 2 for release in early 2013. The original was one of the most innovative RTS titles of the past decade, and still ranks as one of my favourite strategy games. The sequel will take players to the Eastern Front of World War Two, and judging from the first image to be released, it will feature plenty of snow. PC only, of course.
