I wasn’t expecting much from the demo for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, to be honest I had all but forgotten about the game since I saw the first trailer during E3 last year. My first impressions, were not quite the best. For the demo I had to sign in to my EA account and accept a Terms of Service notice, and during the demo I couldn’t even save. That is without talking about the lack of feeling to the PC controls. But soon, it all clicked in place. …
Square Enix have revealed that a Final Fantasy XIII-2 cross platform demo will be released this week. It’s not entirely sure what will be available in the demo but details on that have been promised to follow according to a members blog. The demo will be available first for PS3 owners in America on January 10th and then on January 11th for PS3 and Xbox 360 owners in Europe. Hopefully we will be able to see use of the many changes and new gameplay elements that have been worked on for this game.
It’s nearing that time of year again when every football fan has to make the biggest choice of the year, Pro Evolution Soccer or FIFA. Both series have had the better of each other over the years but Pro Evo has been acting much like Liverpool, once the best in the world but recently overshadowed by FIFA‘s seemingly unstoppable Manchester United. Like Liverpool though PES’s fortunes look to be back on the rise and this could be the year when it once again lives up to the expectations it built up all those years ago. …
As any of you who have read my poorly defended justifications about strategy games will know, I’m really bad at strategy games. That’s been said. Which makes my increasingly frequent writeups of strategy game demos apparently very strange. But there’s two reasons why I’m not nearly so bad at Total War games, and another two about why Empire in particular is fitting me rather well. Total War games tend to lean more on the sweeping tactics side of strategy, which I can just about do, and they have much of the game during a turn based format, which I can also do. And Empire has boats, and it also has cannons.
