I’ve been looking at ‘Fights in Tight Spaces’, a tactical deck-building combat rogue-alike from GroundShatter and Mode 7 that has just hit Early Access.

The acronym FITS is maddeningly close to FIST’s which would be infinitely more suitable given the game, though swapping the S and T around does ruin the name- so I understand their reasoning. You see the name does exactly what it says on the tin, albeit a bloody, violent tin. The FITS acronym does open up some glorious options for alternative names such as the ones already mentioned in Week 129 of Our Week In Games here.

A more professional games journalist would leave that joke there and concentrate on doing the review. I am not a professional games journalist (but what makes a game journalist a professional? – Ed)……

Stylish card-based fighting game, Fights in Tight Spaces has today been confirmed for an Early Access release date of 24th February, and the free Prologue has also been updated. Exciting times indeed for a game that I’ve long been interested in. With over 20,000 players trying out the Prologue, the team at Groundshelter and Mode 7 Games must be looking forward to seeing the reaction when the Early Access version is available. The game is pretty much feature complete, with the developers expecting about 40-hours of play from the Early Access edition. While the Daily Challenges won’t feature in the Early Access version at launch, the team expect to use their time in Early Access to introduce a new character and further balance the game based on player feedback.

I played the Prologue back in December and was left very impressed with the style of the game, and the action was pretty damn good to. The Prologue has been updated with a refresher UI and replay system to check out all of your best hits. In these Corona filled times, sporting events and leagues across the country are being postponed. One such example is the Elite Ice Hockey League, the best place to go to watch some hard hitting brawling with a dash of ice hockey. Coming from Ground Shatter, with publishing duties helmed by Mode 7 (Frozen Synapse, Tokyo 42), Fights is a card-based tactical fighting game that looks extremely stylish.

With over 150 cards to choose from, you’ll be able to create a fighting style that suits you down to the ground. Along the wy you will pick up injuries or enhancements, all while bringing down criminal organisations across the world.

For me, as long as I can get fighting like this, I’ll be happy.
