The Evil Within Gets New Trailer At Tokyo Game Show

The Evil Within Gets New Trailer At Tokyo Game Show

Horror games. You either love them, or you hate them. Me, personally I love them. That intense feeling you get that at any moment something… anything could happen, it really makes my arms tingle with adrenaline. Undoubtedly I will jump out my seat at any slight sign of movement, any noise, or even at my own shadow, but that’s what makes horror games fun. The Evil Within looks like a horror game that I would enjoy a lot.

Here’s a new trailer for The Evil Within, fresh from The Tokyo Game Show.

Enjoy, and try not to squirm too much!

Dead Synchronicity Asks ‘What Will You Do When Time Dissolves Itself?’

Dead Synchronicity Asks ‘What Will You Do When Time Dissolves Itself?’

Back in December Fictiorama Studios presented Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow Comes Today at Adventure X London allowing attendees some hands on time with the game. Since then they have been hard at work and have just released the first gameplay footage.

The following video explains the ins and outs of basic gameplay as well as unique features “DS-backgrounds” and “Dynamic close-up dialogues”. There is also mention of a Kickstarter campaign due to launch around mid March for anyone who may be interested in backing the game.

To keep up to date on the latest Dead Synchronicity news you can find the developer blog here. It’s interesting to note that Fictiorama Studios mention a lot of other adventure games when talking about their inspirations. It’s clear to me that the developers have a passion for adventure gaming and a large knowledge and background in that area.

GTA V Gameplay Trailer Released

GTA V Gameplay Trailer Released

Rockstar and I are currently in the middle of a small domestic. Despite my adoration for all things GTA, the gaming giant is still refusing to tell me whether or not one of my favourite franchises is returning to the PC in the form of GTA V. Until I hear anything more positive on that front, I’m therefore temporarily forced to write about those console things instead.

12 Minutes Of Dark Souls 2 Gameplay

12 Minutes Of Dark Souls 2 Gameplay

IGN have released an exclusive Dark Souls 2 gameplay demo earlier today. Whilst looking very similar to the previous game, it’s apparent that a lot of improvements have been made both visually and gameplay wise. These are talked about during the demo by Yui Tanimura, director of From Software and Tak Miyazoe, Global producer of Namco Bandai. Hit the break to see the full 12 minutes of gameplay.

A number of screenshots were also released earlier today to coincide with the video. These can be found here courtesy of Eurogamer.

Hitman Absolution – Introducing: Tools of the Trade Gameplay Trailer

Hitman Absolution – Introducing: Tools of the Trade Gameplay Trailer

Hitman Absolution’s latest gameplay trailer shows the wide range of ‘weapons’ available to Agent 47 during missions. Showing us pictures of a toilet plunger and a cup of coffee the narrator states that “Weapons are everywhere. Anything is lethal in the hands of 47”. So don’t worry if you find yourself short on bullets or missing a knife or razor wire for silent takedowns, you can always count on that brick lying out on the street or the lead piping in the scrapyard. Professor Plum would be proud. The video’s narrator also states that “we very rarely require you to use any kind of weapon”, meaning your hands will probably be the greatest weapon you have.

If you’d rather go down the more conventional road, 47 will also have all the usual array of guns, knifes and toys to play with throughout the game. The start of the video shows 47 shooting ducks in rapid succession with a silenced pistol much like Sam Fisher might do in the Splinter Cell games. Shotguns, snipers and duel wielding also come into play during the trailer below.

Final Fantasy XIV: An MMO Reborn

Final Fantasy XIV: An MMO Reborn

A few days ago Square Enix took the brave step to re-brand and rebuild failing MMO Final Fantasy XIV with a new tag line ‘A Realm Reborn‘. Adding new gameplay, a whole new storyline and a new website to boot. Since then new screenshots, gameplay video and artwork has been published to show the new direction for the game. Having not tried Final Fantasy XIV before this reboot certainly peaked my interest, but with all the negative publicity already surrounding the game I don’t think it’s quite enough to make me actually pick up and play the game. I wonder if they have given any thought to attempting a free-to-play structure, it’s certainly helped other games such as Aion and Lord of The Rings Online bring in a larger player base in the past.

Have you tried FFXIV before? What do you think of the changes being made and will it be enough to bring new players to the game? Do you think Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn could benefit from a free-to-play structure?

Below are a selection of the new screenshots and art released by Square Enix and the gameplay video for the new Limit Break abilities.

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, 15 Minutes Of Gameplay And Cinematics Emerges

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, 15 Minutes Of Gameplay And Cinematics Emerges

Metal Gear Solid 5 was recently confirmed at the Metal Gear Solid 25th Anniversary event in Tokyo, to be Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes. Ground Zeroes was shown to the lucky audience at the event, who were banned from taking photos or revealing any details about the game via social media. As if that was ever going to happen.

Twitter was alight with news of the dazzling footage showing the original Snake infiltrating a Cuban military base, driving a Jeep and calling a helicopter down from the sky. The first video shows the cinematics and first 30 seconds of real gameplay, while the second video continues the gameplay and shows off the impressive new lighting effects. What better 25th anniversary present could we have hoped for?

Tomb Raider E3 Gameplay Trailer – A Whole World Of Pain

Tomb Raider E3 Gameplay Trailer – A Whole World Of Pain

My heart sank a little when it was announced that Square Enix will be delaying Tomb Raider until early 2013. A few more months is not long to wait I know and will most likely be beneficial to the game as a whole. But it’s been such a long time since the last Tomb Raider that I’m starting to have withdrawal symptoms and find myself hanging out windows and swinging from ropes just to get that sense of adventure again… well, maybe not.

If your adventurous side has been lacking somewhat of late then just wait until you check out the new E3 gameplay video for Tomb Raider, I was literally tingling with excitement. Premiered by IGN last night the video shows Lara in a much darker and more painful world than we are used to seeing. The game is meant to explore the gritty origins of Lara and the Tomb Raider story and it’s clear to see from the footage that Lara has lost a lot of her abilities and physical know how. Also fairly unusual to the Tomb Raider series seemed to be the appearance of many NPC’s who want to work along side the conventionally go-it-alone character.

The trailer, which you can view below, certainly seems to have an Uncharted look about it in places. Let’s hope we hear a lot more about this during E3.

A Defense of ‘Gameplay’

A Defense of ‘Gameplay’

I couldn't think of an visual example of gameplay, so you have pictures of my favourite trees. This is the Oak, the solid tree.
[This is written as an ‘other perspective’ piece, and isn’t necessarily exactly how I think of the topic. However, it’s how I ‘could’ see the topic, so I believe it’s still valid.]

Recently there’s been a growing distaste with the word ‘gameplay’, mainly stemming from the shockingly odd meaning it seems to construe. Words like ‘bookread’ and ‘filmwatch’ have been bandied around in comparison, showing quite how absurd a concept ‘gameplay’ really is. I’ll admit, I don’t think I’ve ever used the word in any of my writings for this precise reason, choosing the far more understandable ‘mechanics’ when addressing how a game.. plays. However, I think there are important things that need to be said about the word, and perhaps even some circumstances where it is appropriate and even useful in conveying ideas.
