What goes up, must come down.
In addition to being a universally accepted truth, this statement has always been an accurate description of my Kerbal Space Program shuttle missions. Try as I might to reproduce NASA’s success, anything I make with wings generally has a life expectancy of under a minute before violently exploding, flipping over, spinning out of control or all of the above.
Another week gone and we get ever closer to the launch of the next-gen consoles, but following the delays to Watch Dogs and Drive Club, is anyone really that excited for the launch titles? If you think that Football Manager, Assassin’s Creed and Battlefield are coming out this week, isn’t everyone going to be happy?
If that doesn’t get you thinking on this Sunday lunchtime, why not hit the break to read about The Stanley Parable and Kerbal Space Program. …
It is the 52nd edition of Our Week in Games and this one is a bit special purely because it marks a years worth of doing this thing. While our first edition of Our Week in Games hit in July last year, we took some time out for Our Year in Games last December. Today though, we try to talk about a few different things to just what we have been playing last week, there are some good stories to be told this week. It was a struggle to choose an image to go at the top of this post, but it is fitting when you think about how this past year or so has gone. Enjoy. …
One of the main problems people have with Kerbal Space Program is getting over the initial learning curve. Navigating the constantly changing, three-dimensional nature of space is a complicated procedure, and it’s one I’m only just beginning to get the hang of.
After Nick managed to successfully land a Kerbal on Duna I asked him if he was going to be able to get them home again. Nick informed me with a heavy heart that this brave Kerbal wouldn’t be coming home this time. My lack of expertise with the way of Kerbal Space Program shone through when I suggested Nick just add a return module next time. Nick’s response was telling and perfectly sums up the conundrum of this game.
“Another module means more fuel.
More fuel means more mass.
More mass means more thrust.
More thrust means more engines.
More engines mean more modules.
More modules means more fuel…
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I’M DOING!!!! …
Space. It goes on and on, seemingly forever, much like Our Week In Games. This little snippet represents our 48th edition, and it’s a testament to the insane variety of games currently on offer that we’ve got this far without even slightly running out of things to talk about. What have I been up to? Well I’ve been back in space.
I should probably let resident Kerbal Space Program expert Nick (who really loves this game) talk a little bit about version 0.20 which was released this week. I should let Nick talk as unlike him, I’ve not even played the blinking game yet. But really, I just wanted to write a few words so I could share this little trailer for the latest update to the game which apparently includes seven new parts and two IVA spaces along with a flag editor. That means nothing to me, but just look at those cute little Kerbal’s driving on the moon! …
