Another week goes by, and it looks like all of us here at Reticule Towers have been busy with our day jobs (or Halloween parties). While Kevin and myself have managed to cover some of the news, we’ve not had a chance to delve deeper into anything else. We’ll have to get ourselves into gear though, in the coming weeks we will see Advanced Warfare and Assassin’s Creed Unity releasing along with some other big titles. While you ponder what you are playing next, hit the break to read the latest Our Week in Games. …
Wow. Wow, wow, wow. That about sums up what I thought when I booted up Mario Kart 8 for the first time. This, this is a top-quality game that any self-respecting gamer should own. Go, go buy a Wii U now and play this!
Maybe I should try and explain? I guess that is what this Verdict is for… …
This past week has seen the release of two massive games, one is cross-platform and cross-generation while the other is a first party exclusive. I am of course talking about Watch_Dogs and Mario Kart 8, detailed words on both will be forthcoming in the coming weeks. I do want to say that the Twitter reaction I’ve read so far has been decidedly more positive towards Nintendo’s racer than the Ubisoft open world hackathon. I’m certainly interested in reading more of what the team have to say aboutWatch_Dogs later this week in our group thoughts.
With that, I wish you an enjoyable week ahead and hope you enjoy our latest Week in Games. …
I have decided that I will be buying Mario Kart 8 and making some much needed use of my Wii U when the racer returns at the end of May. There are two simple reasons for my sudden decision. Firstly, the game looks freaking awesome and I don’t care if I don’t use the multiplayer or video sharing tools. Secondly, after registering the game at Club Nintendo, there will be an opportunity to download a Wii U game for free. Details and videos after the break. …
While seemingly everyone in the world has been talking about the U.S, Election and the upcoming release of Halo 4, few have noticed something amazing is about to happen in the world of video games. This November, for what may be the first time ever, three kart-racing video games will be released — LittleBigPlanet Karting (9th), F1 Race Stars (16th) and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (16th). …
The Mario Kart series has been a firm favourite with Nintendo fans ever since Super Mario Kart was released on the SNES back in 1992. Its (then) unique blend of manic racing action and weapons both offensive and defensive has since become the template for all other mascot-based racing games to base themselves upon – everyone from Sonic the Hedgehog to the M&Ms has had a finger in the kart-racing game pie in the last twenty years – which isn’t bad considering that, prior to its release, many assumed Super Mario Kart was a sign that Nintendo was either running out of ideas or simply abusing Mario’s popularity and mass appeal in order to make a quick buck. Of course, it proved itself to be a massive success both critically and commercially, and since then every major Nintendo console has had a Mario Kart game to call its own. …
