Renegade X – The Final Beta

Renegade X – The Final Beta

There was a time before The Reticule was born when I tried my hand at running a Command and Conquer fansite, it was called cncnation.net and last a couple of years, at least until my enthusiasm for the series was destroyed by the falling standards of Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars and Red Alert 3. But I was always fascinated by the dedicated modding communities that were out there, and one of the biggest is nearing final release.

2013 Mod Of The Year – Liberty City Police Department: First Response

2013 Mod Of The Year – Liberty City Police Department: First Response

Liberty City – You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. Amidst the high-rise buildings and cramped alleyways that smother the surface of a this once beautiful set of islands, a criminal element skulks. Of course, I should know, I used to be one of them.

But now things are different. Over the past few months I’ve been back on the streets of GTA-IV, but this time I’ve been wearing the uniform of Liberty City’s finest – I’ve joined the LCPD, and I’m going to do my best to make Liberty City a better place.

A Game of Thrones meets Football Manager – Part 3 – Major Improvement

A Game of Thrones meets Football Manager – Part 3 – Major Improvement

This is Chris Evans’ story about trying to make a custom database for Football Manager 2013 with a very strong hint of A Game of Thrones. This is the third part of his blog charting his progress.

Would I have started this project if I knew quite how much effort it would take to get it to the stage it is at right now? I most certainly would, it is going to be so rewarding to play a long-term game in the Game of Thrones-themed world that I have created within Football Manager 2013. It isn’t all the way there, I haven’t played in-game with this version of the custom file enough yet to make sure everything is working as intended, and I haven’t touched any team logos yet which is going to be something which I might struggle to sort out. Anyway, the latest update on where things are is as follows.

Arma 3 Won’t Use Steam Workshop – Will Have Better Mod Integration

Arma 3 Won’t Use Steam Workshop – Will Have Better Mod Integration

While the popularity of the DayZ mod for Arma 2 (Nick thoroughly enjoyed it) seems to be increasing at an exponential rate, I regularly see comments from people who are new to the series that they are having difficulties in installing the mod and getting it to work. I wondered whether these difficulties would lead Bohemia to explore the possibilities to using Steam Workshop to support mods for Arma 3. I put my question to Arma 3 creative director Ivan Buchta, hit the jump to see what he had to say.

Steam Workshop To Expand Further With Civ5

Steam Workshop To Expand Further With Civ5

Civilization V is going to be the next addition to the ever growing Steam Workshop when the Gods & Kings expansion drops later this month. Civilization V was released with an in-game mod database, but as detailed on this 2K Games blog they are going one step further with the use of the Workshop which will work with both the base game and the expansion. This announcement comes in the wake of Toki Tori 2 revealing it will use the Workshop, and of course the opening of the DOTA 2 Workshop.

Valve have clearly hit on an exciting market with the Workshop, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see many other titles make use of the service further down the line. ARMA 3 springs to mind as a game that would work perfectly with Valve’s latest toy. What games do you want to see make use of the Workshop?

Mod Spotlight – Just Cause 2 Superman Flying Mod

Mod Spotlight – Just Cause 2 Superman Flying Mod

I must admit, Just Cause 2 failed to hold my attention. Despite the beautiful vistas, the open-world gameplay and the varied missions, I quickly tired of the poor driving mechanics, the rather pre-school approach to physics, and the predictable AI of my opponents. It was with a sigh that I finally returned the game to the digital shelf of Steam and moved on to pastures new. To return to the tropical paradise of Panau, I thought, it would take something very special indeed.
