12 Minutes Of Dark Souls 2 Gameplay

12 Minutes Of Dark Souls 2 Gameplay

IGN have released an exclusive Dark Souls 2 gameplay demo earlier today. Whilst looking very similar to the previous game, it’s apparent that a lot of improvements have been made both visually and gameplay wise. These are talked about during the demo by Yui Tanimura, director of From Software and Tak Miyazoe, Global producer of Namco Bandai. Hit the break to see the full 12 minutes of gameplay.

A number of screenshots were also released earlier today to coincide with the video. These can be found here courtesy of Eurogamer.

Shatner’s Era May Be Long Gorn But Star Trek Still Looks Great

Shatner’s Era May Be Long Gorn But Star Trek Still Looks Great

William Shatner’s battle with the Gorn in this trailer for the upcoming Star Trek game may not play out quite how I remembered it. Thankfully this doesn’t reflect in the small amount of footage also shown in the trailer. Kirk (now played by Chris Pine) can be seen fighting classic enemy the Gorn with a range of different phaser weapons and even in hand to hand combat. The new game wont be all action however, promises Brian Miller vice president of Paramount. Speaking at last years E3 he said “You will have elements of a shooter. You’ll have elements of exploration, and adventure, and discovery. That is what the new Star Trek is about.”

An added incentive to fans is that a large number of the original voice actors from the 2009 film have been signed up for the game. Releasing on April 26th Star Trek will be available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition – The Verdict

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition – The Verdict

Geralt of Rivia, the White Wolf, is a Witcher. Witchers are warriors who possess magic powers and superior abilities due to being taken in as children and given potions and martial training for most of their young lives. This special training can cause adverse side affects and sometimes even death, the result of this is that only 40% of children survive the final trial and go on to become Witchers. Once fully trained Witchers use their unique abilities to make a living killing wild beasts and often people who get in their way. Geralt was special, being able to take on larger doses of the mutagen as a child and undergo extra experiments to further increase his abilities. He was lucky to escape with the only side effect of the experiments being his hair turning sheet white. Without giving too much away the game begins with Geralt recalling his story of battle beside King Foltest who he recently saved from an assassination attempt. The King is retaliating against a revolt by the noble families of his kingdom who are unhappy with his rule and Geralt, knowing better than to refuse a King, has taken to becoming his personal guard.

The Reticule’s Guide To Soul Calibur V

The Reticule’s Guide To Soul Calibur V

Soul Calibur V releases in Europe today, having been available in North America and Japan for most of this week. It came away with a headshot in Tuesday’s Soul Calibur V review, and if you’re thinking of joining the fight you’ll need to do some catching up to the rest of the world, especially as my main criticism was of how the game doesn’t do quite enough to get you up to speed on its new systems and massive move list. The info is all out there if you’re willing to spend time researching it though, so here’s some of the fundamentals of the new game:

Soul Calibur V – The Verdict

Soul Calibur V – The Verdict

Don’t let the dashing, hooded Italian on Soul Calibur V‘s boxart fool you. Namco and their rivals aren’t in the business of trying to squeeze a big release out every single year. They understand the value of leaving land fallow. It has been nearly three years since the last Tekken, dead on three years since we entered the fourth Street Fighter era. And Soul Calibur IV? Nearly four years old. The Soul series’ sixth instalment arrives this week, and it’s a game that reaffirms the series’ position as a major fighting game franchise whilst reacting to the less-than sweeping changes that have been wrought by its alternatives.

Dark Souls – The Verdict

Dark Souls – The Verdict

Dark Souls is not the kind of game you can slap a score on and send people on their merry little way. For me, Dark Souls is something beautiful; I feel richer for having played it and having lived through the wretched lows and giddy highs. For others it is a short-lived exploration of extreme frustration, akin to battering one’s head against the wall. The game’s slogan ‘Prepare to die’ isn’t mocking you, it isn’t challenging you to do otherwise, it’s explaining how you play the game. You die, you learn and you grow.
