SimCity – Not A Verdict

SimCity – Not A Verdict

The words you are about to read might read like one of our Verdicts, but it isn’t. I don’t think I would be comfortable granting SimCity my Verdict just yet, and I might not ever grant it one. Thanks in part to EA and Maxis’ decision to make it an always-online game it has been one of the most controversial releases in recent years. Server issues, high price and in-game bugs have all contrived to damage the reputation of the franchise.

Sim City- The People Have Spoken

Sim City- The People Have Spoken

Amidst all the reddit posts, twitter rants and  facebook memes, it’s difficult to put a figure on just how many people have been angered by the release of Sim City. Well, now you can; it’s 76,008 people and counting.

Maxis Head Lucy Bradshaw Provides New SimCity Update

Not content with just one update on the woes of the SimCity launch, the head of Maxis, Lucy Bradshaw has provided another statement about the current situation. She indicates that as a result of back-end server work and client side updates various connectivity issues and game crashes are being resolved, but that they are unable just yet to claim the game is running at 100%. You can find her statement after the break.

Our Week in Games – Week 30

Our Week in Games – Week 30

Tombs and Cities are the theme amongst gamers this week with the release of Tomb Raider and SimCity dominating proceedings, with EA’s city builder being the star of the show for all the wrong reasons. I’ve not personally had any issues with it so far, but I know that lots of people have, please let us know your thoughts on the game, the server issues and EA’s response in the comments.

There is something else I want to briefly touch on, and it is another issue away from SimCity which has been cropping up on my Twitter feed this week, and that the topic of AdBlock and other ad-blocking extensions in your web browser. There are two blogs I would recommend everyone read about this issue, the first is from indie developer CY Reid and the other is on Destructoid. Again, I would like to know what people think about ads, ad-blockers and the ads we run here on The Reticule, leave us a comment, Tweet us, leave a comment on Facebook or even email us. Enough serious business, on with the games.

SimCity – I’ve Connected and Played It

SimCity – I’ve Connected and Played It

To say that the launch of SimCity has gone disastrously for EA and the many gamers who have been eagerly anticipating the game is perhaps being kind, things have not gone well so far, especially not with the American launch earlier in the week. However in the past hour I have been able to download, install and start playing the game. I doubt that we are in peak time for users, it will be most interesting to see how things are going this evening and over the weekend.

Will Wright talks New SimCity

Will Wright talks New SimCity

Legendary creator of SimCity, Will Wright has been talking to lead designer on the new game, Stone Librande about the game. It also features a whole host of in-game footage along with plenty of Will’s face. However, I wonder what he would think of online requirements of the new title? You can see the video with Will, along with a similar video which EA released last week after the break.

Why I Won’t Be Buying Sim City

Why I Won’t Be Buying Sim City

Maxis has always been one of my favourite developers. The Sims, Sim Ant, Sim Farm – All incredibly innovative games, (aside perhaps for their titles,) and each one of them holding a special place in my cruel, twisted heart. However, the announcement that the new Sim City would require an always-on internet connection resulted in me raising my arms and screaming ‘UBISOFT!’ Of course, I then remembered it was actually being published by EA, but my reaction still stands.

My Hopes for the Year Ahead

My Hopes for the Year Ahead

It is a new year, and with that, we should all have plenty to look forward to, the FA Cup Third Round, Superbowl and Wrestlemania will all take place in the coming weeks and months. While I am certainly looking forward to those events, I have a few hopes for what I will occur in the gaming world over the next twelve months. Kevin is running through his Top 10 Games to look forward to, so my hopes will largely…

SimCity Trailer Shows off Disasters

SimCity Trailer Shows off Disasters

The SimCity franchise has a long, well established history on the PC stretching back to the original title back in 1989 with the last main game in the series, SimCity 4 being released back in 2003. Some of the best moments of those classic games came with the massive destructive events that would cause devastation in your cities. It is good to see that EA remember the heritage of the games as they have released a trailer showing off some of the disasters which will be present in the new game when it is released next year. Check out the trailer below.
