While Chris was reviewing The Persistence, he made a passing comment that it wasn’t as terror inducing as the Shalebridge Cradle from Thief: Deadly Shadows. It sparked a conversation in our Discord about our time with Thief, and more specifically The Cradle. As good games journalists, we decided that sharing Our Tales of the Crade with a wider audience would be worthwhile.
This weekend saw one of the long-standing rumours of the games industry proven right. The infamous E.T game for the Atari 2600 was long thought to have been buried in a New Mexico landfill. As part of an Xbox documentary on the game a team went to New Mexio with Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb handling the first copy of the game that was recovered. Who said the games industry didn’t have a history?

Thief is… well I don’t know exactly. I know what it thinks it is; a stealth game about thievery and intrigue, but I’m not entirely convinced. It’s most certainly not a bad game, but it is one that struggles with its own (self inflicted) problems that do their damnedest to spoil the experience. …

A new Thief, it is real and will be coming out next year on PC, PlayStation 4 and other un-named next-gen consoles, aka the next Xbox. The new game is being developed by Eidos-Montreal, the studio who worked on the much loved Deus-Ex: Human Revolution. Most important of all, the new game won’t be called Thi4f as had been rumoured previously, it is actually a re-invention of the classic series and as such doesn’t warrant any number in the title nonsense. …

Here at the Reticule, we love a bit of horror. I say love – personally, I have a tendency to hide in cupboards from it, and from the looks of his contribution below, so does Michael. Nevertheless, I emerged from Narnia just long enough to ask my fellow Reticulans to write a few words about the games that scared them the most. The results are some expected suspects, and one slightly less so.
With Deus Ex Human Revolution out of the door and the team behind it presumably enjoying a little rest in between lighter DLC work, all eyes should rightly be on Eidos Montreal’s second team and their big project: Thief 4. Doing the rounds in the last couple of days have been 12 storyboard illustrations apparently from the game, posted on the portfolio of Vancouver-based artist Marlon Deane.
