Train Simulator 2014 – The Verdict

Train Simulator 2014 – The Verdict

I like my simulation games and the slightly odd ball, it is why I’ve played Euro Truck Sim 2 as much as I have and even traded cards on Steam to complete my collection. Train Simulator had eluded me until the 2014 version landed. This is my Verdict.

Europa Universalis IV – The Verdict

Europa Universalis IV – The Verdict

I never thought I would find myself yearning to play more Europa Universalis but when I realise that I haven’t played it for a few weeks I find myself itching to get back to it. An Editor’s note here: this Verdict has been waiting to be published since before the Eurogamer Expo, trade shows are time-sinks just as much as Europa is.

Dishonored: The Brigmore Witches – The Verdict

Dishonored: The Brigmore Witches – The Verdict

The tale of Corvo and Daud that started in the opening act of Dishonored with the murder of the Empress comes to a close in The Brigmore Witches. The tale that has been told has been one of my favourite gaming experiences of recent years, and the world one of the richest. This is my Verdict on the last piece of DLC, The Brigmore Witches.

Metro Last Light – The Verdict

Metro Last Light – The Verdict

Metro: Last Light is the sequel to the terribly underrated, and truly excellent Metro:2033. Where Metro:2033 was Alien, Last Light is the Aliens, or more accurately, the Prometheus. It’s bigger, in scale and budget, and, erm, I think this analogy has derailed….regardless, this is my Verdict.

Memoria – The Verdict

Memoria – The Verdict

“Somehow I don’t enjoy mindless trial and error like I used to” announces Geron during what I now like to refer to as ‘The Cucumber Incident’, the one and only moment in Memoria where all reasoning and judgement is thrown out the window in place for random guess work and pure luck. To say that there is only one such moment in a ten to twelve hour game built around puzzle solving is a big credit to Daedalic Entertainment.

Gun Monkeys – The Verdict

Gun Monkeys – The Verdict

Have you ever had a game tutorial where a mysterious, yet lovely English voice talks you through the basics of a game where monkeys are sent to a battle to the bitter end? If you haven’t, well you need to get your priorities straight and get playing Gun Monkeys, a gruesomely-awesome game of monkey violence.

Beatbuddy – The Verdict

Beatbuddy – The Verdict

I always find it a shame when a game you were looking forward to just doesn’t live up to the potential you saw in it. I’m talking about Beatbuddy, the game I played at Rezzed and fell in love with. But that was only one level that was playable at the show and sadly the final game just doesn’t match up with the brilliant snap-shot of it I played. By no means is it a bad game, it just goes from being an almighty and truly amazing experience…to being simply an amazing game with a few aspects that got to me.

Trackmania 2: Valley – The Verdict

Trackmania 2: Valley – The Verdict

I had never truly appreciated the Steam Workshop until I started playing Trackmania 2: Valley, but now I most certainly do. You could probably say that for any of the Trackmania 2 titles really, but I decided that Valley was going to be my return to the series after thoroughly enjoying Nations many moons ago. Why did I return with Valley? Probably because of the new rally style that is featured in the game.

Jack Keane 2 – The Verdict

Jack Keane 2 – The Verdict

Now I know how Amanda feels.

This is a very difficult review to write; there’s a part of me that wants to just write this game off as a bad’un. It has many serious flaws, but there are also glimpses of pure genius throughout that have me holding back, just.

So let’s walk our way through it, and see where we end up at the end.

Company of Heroes 2 – The Verdict

Company of Heroes 2 – The Verdict

War is brutal and horrific, yet it feels like recent big FPS hits have failed to truly touch on the horrors of war, rather favouring over the top set-pieces and wafer thin plot. It falls then a totally different game from the Call of Duty and Battlefield’s of the world to give us a somewhat realistic viewpoint on war. That game is Company of Heroes 2 and it is a must play.
